If you are interested in how homes can be powered with solar energy then this is the event for you!

The largest grassroots solar event in history will take place Saturday, October 2,2010 with USF’s Clean Energy Research Center (CERC) hosting Tampa Bay’s “National Tour of Solar Homes.” The tour is part of a national collaboration to help Americans address a critical problem while introducing them to an array of clean, effective solutions that generate ongoing economic and environmental rewards.

This year’s event (scheduled for Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.), will be a self-guided tour of area homes and businesses with solar systems. A map of exhibitors will be available for folks who want to see these homes. Come by our laboratory at 3720 Spectrum Blvd.(adjacent to the USF campus at the intersection of Fowler Ave. and Spectrum Blvd.) to pick up the map. We ask that you register your contact information with us at that time, so as to help us protect our volunteer exhibitors. You will also receive a free "Get Started" guide provided by the Americal Solar Energy Society.

This is the second year that CERC has hosted the Tampa Bay region’s leg of the national event. The tours introduce communities to solar technologies and other alternative energies.

The national event is organized and coordinated by the American Solar Energy Society. This event offers you the opportunity to tour innovative green homes and buildings to see how you can use solar energy, energy efficiency, and other sustainable technologies to reduce monthly utility bills and help tackle climate change. More than 160,000 participants will visit some 5,500 buildings in 3,200 communities across the U.S.

Now in its 15th year, this event is coordinated nationally by the nonprofit American Solar Energy Society in collaboration with dozens of outstanding partner organizations. It takes place annually during the first Saturday in October in conjunction with National Energy Awareness Month.

Calling all energy-efficient buildings in the Tampa Bay area!

Please join USF's Clean Energy Research Center and the Students for the Marketing and Advancement of Renewable Technologies (SMART) for Tampa Bay's first solar tour which is hosted by American Solar Energy Society (ASES).

We are currently in search of energy efficient homes and commercial buildings for the tour, as well as volunteers. As way of showing appreciation, the American Solar Energy Society offers a free one year basic membership to homeowners on the Tour ($39 value) that includes a year’s subscription to their award winning Solar Today Magazine.

This event, now in its 15th year, is coordinated nationally by the nonprofit American Solar Energy Society. Last year close to 140,000 attendees visited some 5,000 buildings in 3,000 participating communities across the country. USF's CERC(Clean Energy Research Center) will be coordinating the local tour for the Tampa Bay area. An increasing focus of the tour is on energy-saving techniques and sustainability through building design, energy efficient appliances, and use of green materials during remodeling.

The tours will also provide helpful, real-world examples of costs and how to save money with federal, state, and local incentives. Ultimately the tour inspires people across the nation to make sustainable energy choices that help lower costs, support energy independence, protect against power outages, and reduce carbon emissions. We invite you to join the renewable energy revolution by participating in the ASES National Solar Tour.
